Friday 14 May. Chamonix....Mt Blanc.....Thonon, Lac Lamen....

Ohh La La......What a day I have had.....Leaving early, we met Fredriech, put our stuff in her car and headed of about 9:00 from her place which is 1 1/2 hrs drive from St Priest.
The names of the many towns escapes me but the spectacular scenery will never leave my memory. We headed towards Geneva and I wondered which mountain I was going to....was it the same one Gemma and the girls visited???......I don't think so as my experience is one I will never forget. We wound our way upwards, glimpsing snow capped summits but most of them were obscured by cloud and inclement weather. As we got closer to our destination Jean Lucien informs me that we are going to the highest mountain in Europe....Mt Blanc 4800mtrs!!!....The town at its base is Chamonix.....boy...this is definitely not Gem's hill!!.....The town held a very welcoming Alpine atmosphere and was nestled between two never ending mountain ranges....not that I could tell because we couldn't see their tops...
The feeling was not good as the weather seemed to be coming in badly. Not worth taking the cable car was the advice.....so we wandered the town and indulged in a typical French skiing meal....Salad....An extremely tasty and VERY filling cheese fondue followed by berry crepes....Bon Appetite!!!
This was a good choice and the start of the positives....sun.....sighting of the summits.....excitement.....cable car tickets purchased....aboard the train.....excitement....anticipation......upwards.....glimpses of Chamonix way down in the valley.....snow on the ground....then snow falling to the ground.....higher and higher...."Are We There Yet?.....YES"....everyone off.....snowing..snowing.....sighting of the famous spectaculy frozen cascade .....sighting of the entrance to the tunnel inside the glacier.....steep cable descent....alight......snowing....."Ohh La La".....such excitement.....many many steps........clearing skies....great vision....lots of pics....finally at the entrance..... rapture as we gingerly made our way into the tunnel!!!!!!......almost eurphoria....many pics.....information....wonder...amazement....intrigue..................sadly time to leave.....many, many steps upwards Well done Maryvonne.....lucky last cable back to train....waiting.....exhaustion....elation ......descent......beauty......happy...happy....happy!
Sadly we leave this beautiful Alpine village.....
2 hours driving.....between snow capped mountains....eventually flat but still lush green country.....Lac Lamen on our left....a bit of a scenic drive....Tom Tom...(*French version of my BIL's GPS, Alice).....gave wrong directions??.....finally....Thonon....Hotel.....a quick look around the beautiful town which hugs the banks of Lac Lamen.....Hot Chinese soup for dinner and nougat??.....back to hotel.....sleep..
Yes please, it's my turn for some Brutysleep.
Bonsoir! F.
